Mount Gambier will get a taste of the undead this Saturday with the 14th annual Mount Gambier Zombie Walk set to hit the streets in spooktacular style.
Long time event attendee Sharmaine “Sharky” Fogarty (pictured) has taken over as head organiser this year from Kylie Bramford.
Ms Fogarty said her costume will be a nod to Miss Bramford and her legacy leading the event.
“I am going to use my Recyled Runway outfit as a princess because Kylie was always the zombie queen and she called me her zombie princess,” she said.
The event will start early with guys and ghouls in their creepy costumes camped outside of Aussie Disposals for the business’ halloween barbecue from 9am-2pm.
Participants will meet at Vansittart Park at 4pm with the walk down the main street starting at 5pm and concluding in the Cave Gardens where everyone will receive a lolly bag.
Ms Fogarty said she intends to keep the event going and hopes it continues to grow.
“There’s a few groups that always come,” she said.
“We usually get between 50-100 people on a good year.
“The COVID one I think I counted only 30 zombies that rocked up and that was only just after they started letting events happen again so people were probably still scared to come out.”
Mount Gambier Zombie Walk badges will be available for a gold coin donation with raffle tickets being sold for $3.
The annual event has raised over $12,000 for a different local charity each year with the Bell Tower Op Shop selected to receive this year’s funds.
“We have not overlapped any (charities) so far but we might have to go back and redo some if we go for too long,” Ms Fogarty said.
There will be prizes including skull candles, Mount Gambier Zombie Walk mugs and custom zombie notebooks awarded to the best dressed female, male, boy, girl and group.
