Mount Gambier will get a taste of the undead when the 13th Annual Zombie Walk rises from the dead on October 30.
The annual event has raised money for a number of charities over the years, donating funds to Guide Dogs Australia, Sunset Community Kitchen, South East Animal Welfare League, Friends of Native Wildlife, Four Reasons Why and The South East Junction.
Organiser Kylie Bamford said the event had raised more than $12,000 since its inception.
“We try to keep the money raised local, helping individuals around the Christmas period,” she said.
“We have chosen Foodbank as this year’s charity so they will be in attendance to accept any kind of canned goods or donations as long as they are in date.”
The Mount Gambier Zombie Walk will run in accordance with COVID restrictions in a similar format to last year’s event.
“Last year we were one of the only groups possibly in the world that were actually allowed to have a zombie walk because everyone else was in lockdown, so we felt really fortunate,” Miss Bamford said.
“At this stage we will have a number cap of 150 people and facemasks and signing in will be mandatory.
“We did think about making people pre-register but because we’re a non–profit organisation it is a lot easier for people just to come along on the day and donate.”
“I would like to thank the businesses that have helped out over the years, everyone who has helped us and the community because we could not do it without you.”
To get involved, dress up in your best zombie costume and meet at Vansittart Park at 6pm on October 30.
