Juniors taste championship success

The 2021 South East Tennis Association Junior Singles Championship was held on Sunday at the Lucindale Country Club.

With 74 players from across the South East, the Lucindale Country Club was the perfect place to be on a beautiful sunny windless day.

The lawn courts were in great condition and held up well after 118 matches were played throughout the day.

The tennis was played at a great standard with some quality rallies played by everyone.

Zayne Young just got over the line 7-5 over his good mate Cade Kelly.

This one-on-one battle decided the 16 and Under Boys competition which was equal to any top senior mens match seen on a Saturday.

The 18 and Under Girls winner was Poppy Moyle Read after she overcame Maddie Kelly 6-2.

It was a tight fight for the 16 and Under Girls crown as Jorja Mitchell and Jess Stutley went head to head.

Mitchell was eventually victorious 6-4.

Kiele Longbottom won the 14 and Under Girls title after beating Lucy Handbury 6-3.

Jace Maxwell was a dominant force in the 14 and Under Boys competition, not dropping a set and winning the final 6-1 against Fergus Kentish.

The 12 and Under Boys finale was a thriller between Hamish Gordon and Samuel Haase.

After 54 intense minutes Gordon emerged on top 7-5.

Zarah Thami was the 12 and Under Girls winner followed by runner-up Kiersten Cole.

Annabelle Gordon took out the 10 and Under Girls prize after finishing on top of runner-up Zara Cole.

Thomas Handbury was in fine form all afternoon and took out the 10 and Under Boys trophy with a 6-1 win over Reuben Otta in the final.

It was also impressive to witness great camaraderie amongst the players as they all caught up with friends from different associations, while impeccable manners and sportsmanship was on display.
