Rival sides unite for charity

Senior men

International v Gambier Centrals

Gambier Centrals will head to Casadio Park on Sunday to take on International, with both clubs playing for a good cause as they team up to raise funds and supplies for charity.

Those attending the game are urged to donate to the Foodbank food drive, with donations accepted at the gate.

This game is also the 10th anniversary of the clubs’ Indigenous round – with Centrals set to don their new Indigenous kits for the first time in their men’s and women’s senior sides.

So far this year Inter has beaten Centrals both times they played each other, with the second game being much more competitive than the first.

This is also Centrals first time playing away since Round 4, so the side is looking forward to the change of scenery.

Gambier Centrals president Shane Dycer spoke to The SE Voice about why the round means more to the club on a deeper level than just a regular minor round game.

“It’s not just about the three points this week, it’s so much more with the Indigenous game and the Foodbank round we do every year with ourselves and Inter with this fixture,” Dycer said.

“Points would be fantastic. We consider this a free hit because Inter’s pretty much got top spot sewn up, so if any of us can take some points off them (it would be great), but as long as we’re highly competitive this week then we have two weeks off and reset ourselves for the last four games.”

Apollo v Blue Lake

Blue Lake will take on Apollo this week in a highly competitive match.

These sides have played each other twice with Blue Lake winning last time and both sides sharing the points in the first meeting.

Last week Blue Lake had a tough loss to Centrals whereas Apollo picked up a good win in Naracoorte.

Both sides have been pretty good this season as they sit in the second and third spots on the ladder – and the outcome of this game could prove decisive in who will secure the second spot heading into finals.

Blue Lake will have a tough time against an Apollo defence that is coming off a clean sheet, whereas Apollo have struggled a bit in periods of the season in scoring in both halves.

Against Centrals and Blue Lake, Apollo failed to score in the second half in both games which could be an issue in this game as the Rangers have been a side that can dish off a lot of goals in a short amount of time.

Senior women

Apollo v Blue Lake

Apollo will take on Blue Lake on their home turf this Saturday, with both sides coming off great wins and full of confidence heading into this game.

All season Apollo has been in a league of its own as they sit 10-0.

Blue Lake has also been a very dominant team with a lot of solid wins, but also some tough losses.

Their form has been pretty good over the last five games, only losing once at the hands of Apollo.

If Apollo wants to shut down Blue Lake they will have to stop the Rangers’ Chelsea Frost who is coming off a hat-trick performance last week.

If Blue Lake wants to steal a win off Apollo they are going to have to execute well and capitalise on the limited chances they will get to score.

So far this season Apollo’s defence has been amazing as they have only conceded five goals.

International v Gambier Centrals

Gambier Centrals will take on International on Sunday at Casadio Park.

As mentioned in the men’s preview this is a special fixture for the clubs as it is their Indigenous round and they are also collecting funds and goods for Foodbank.

Going into this game both sides are coming off tough losses.

Centrals will be hungry for the three points after last week’s defeat where they were so close to getting a positive result.

Inter has been struggling this season as they have only recorded one win – and Centrals got the better of Inter last time out, defeating them 5-2.

This will be a game Centrals will be looking to win as the fight for the top two is very close, with only a four point difference between them and second place.

Millicent United v Naracoorte United

Naracoorte United will head to Millicent on Sunday to take on Millicent United.

Naracoorte has struggled this year and the side is still in search of its first win.

Millicent’s form has been a bit up and down with four wins, three draws and three losses and have not been playing the best over the past five games, winning twice and having two losses and a draw.

Millicent will be looking to get back on track this week because they cannot afford to drop any points given how competitive the top four teams have been.

A bright spot for Naracoorte is that last time these sides played they shared the points, which should give them confidence heading into this game.
