Accolades flow for talented performer

Tenison Woods College Year 12 student Maixence Williams (pictured) recently sung success at the Royal South Street Eisteddfod in Victoria, taking home multiple accolades.

Miss Williams won first for her Jazz and Blues Solo 16-U18 and Strut Your Stuff Open, second place in Contemporary Ballad Solo 16-U18 and Country Solo 16-U18 as well as a Highly Commended for Contemporary Upbeat Solo 16-U18.

It is the first time the event has taken place in a live format for multiple years due to being cancelled or more recently, reduced to an online format.

While Miss Williams has performed in many Eisteddfods since she started singing at a young age, she said she felt this was her last event as she was reaching the end of her schooling journey.

“Although, it was a slightly smaller Eisteddfod than before COVID-19, it was so great to have such large sections within the 16 to under 18 age group,” she said.

“My favourite piece to perform was Misty by Ella Fitzgerald, as I am starting to experiment more with my jazz pieces and I love the stylistic embellishments I have added into this version.

“I would like to thank my singing teachers Jodi Swiggs from Phoenix Music Studios, Viv Dowling and Dan Hamill Performance Coaching in Melbourne for their endless support with my pieces and allowing me to reach my full potential.”

Miss Williams is currently completing her Rockschool Level 4 Professional Diploma which will allow her entry to music qualifications at a professional level, however her dream career is one far from the performing arts.

“Although I believe singing and the performing arts will always have a place in my heart, after graduation I am looking to study business at university and eventually work in the local Southern Rock Lobster industry,” she said.

“I can definitely see myself, however, still singing around Mount Gambier during the off-season of the industry as singing will always be my passion.”
