Association role retained

Mount Gambier City Mayor Lynette Martin will continue to chair the Limestone Coast Local Government Association.

Her unopposed appointment was decided when the elected leaders of the region’s seven councils met in the Millicent council chambers last month.

The delegates decided to increase Maor Martin’s annual allowance by almost 5% to $9600.

Meanwhile, Wattle Range Mayor Des Noll made an unsuccessful bid to continue in the LCLGA vice-presidency.

First-term Tatiara District Mayor Liz Goossens won the secret ballot for the position.

The election was overseen by Coorong District Council chief executive Bridget Mather.

Mayor Noll was nominated by the Mount Gambier and Grant councils while Mayor Goossens was nominated by the Robe and Naracoorte Lucindale councils.

Mayor Martin and Mayor Noll were the only two mayors from this region who were returned to office at the four-yearly state-wide council elections in 2022. The other five mayors were either defeated or retired from office.
