Australian of the Year Dr Richard “Harry” Harris (pictured) was the guest speaker at a recent cattle industry dinner at the clubrooms of the Penola Football Club at McCorquindale Park.

The organisers of the Southern Grassfed Carcase Classic arranged for Dr Harris to address their annual presentation dinner and he described his key role in the Thai cave rescue in 2018.

His previous cave diving experience combined with his expert medical knowledge saw him assist in the rescue twelve young soccer players and their coach.

Meanwhile, shorthorn cattle were awarded both the Champion and the Reserve Champion carcase in the Southern Grassfed Carcase Classic.

There were more than 1000 steers and heifers from leading South Australian and Victorian breeders processed at Teys Australia’s Naracoorte abattoir between October and February making it one of the largest grass-fed trials in the world.

The Grand Champion Carcase for the 15th Annual Southern Grassfed Carcase Classic went to Lin, Maureen, Sam and Jade Inglis, Inglewood Props, Crystal Brook

The Reserve Champion Carcase went to E.R. and G.F. Flint, of Kingston.

The competition raised $30,000 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
