Baker rises to political challenge

Another aspiring politician by the name of Baker is seeking to represent MacKillop in State Parliament.

Family First SA has endorsed Dayle Baker as one of four challengers to sitting Liberal MP Nick McBride at the March 19 poll.

The name of the Family First SA candidate bears an almost exact resemblance to late Liberal MP Dale Baker who held the seat from 1985 until 1997.

He had served as Opposition Leader, shadow minister and cabinet minister.

It is almost a decade since Mr Dale Baker died in Adelaide on March 27, 2012 at the age of 73.

He had headed the Baker Group of Companies which include the Woonallee Simmental beef cattle stud, the Banksia Native Flower Company and various broad acre farming enterprises.

Born in Millicent on January 30, 1939, Mr Dale Baker was educated locally and at Scotch College in Adelaide.

He was a long-serving Millicent Hospital board chairman and a Millicent Football Club player life member.
