Saturday proved to be a much better sailing day for the boats of the Port MacDonnell Sailing Club.
The steady 10 knot winds ensured more pleasant conditions for the seven boats that raced.
Race officer Don McLennan, with the assistance of committee boat driver Chris Jacobs, set the buoys to mark the triangle – loop – triangle course the boats would follow for both races.
Farr-mer with Dave Evans, Adrian Romescu and Brad Mann on board was the first boat to cross the start line with a beautiful start.
Tom Paltridge’s Austral20 Windy Fred was the second boat to start, close behind Farr-mer.
The first three boats to start stayed close together for the majority of the race.
One boat in the fleet pulled out with problems shortly after starting, while Jennifer Jones’ Austral20 Pinky 2 dropped behind the rest of the fleet, with crew Dave Jones and Stella Harfield having to iron out small issues as it was the first time this boat took to the water.
Line honours went to Farr-mer with Austral20 Papillion close behind and Windy Fred in third.
Farr-mer had yet another wonderful start in the second race of the day at a tightly packed start line.
This time Austral20 Mirage, skippered by Dennis Illman and with Donnita Widdison and past Commodore Morris Dickins on board, were second boat across the start line.
The entire fleet stayed closely packed as it sailed the second race.
Pinky 2 was chased by Austral20 Salt Peter for the entire race, with Robin White’s Salt Peter coming close to overtaking Pinky 2 at the last buoy.
Some tactical sailing by Jennifer Jones ensured that Pinky 2 crossed the line before Salt Peter in the end.
Farr-mer had a great day on the water, holding off Windy Fred and Papillion to take line honours.
