Bowlers turn up the heat at Port MacDonnell

On Sunday Port MacDonnell hosted the men’s and ladies 100up in very cold and windy conditions.

Thirteen men and six ladies nominated, with the ladies 100up sponsored by Herbert Real Estate.

Lyn Vanderlay defeated Nell Lucas and Julie Beamna to reach the final.

Carol Schmidt played Elaine Pruis and Suzanne Connell to reach the grand final, with Vanderley starting in fine form.

Schmidt started to find her line and length and began to catch up to Vanderley.

A few spectators braved the conditions to watch the close match which saw Schmidt claim the honours 100 to 90.

In the men’s event, sponsored by Kelvin and Fay Butler, Tim Wrightson defeated Adam Wilson, Barrie Schmidt and Terry Seiler to reach the grand final.

Keith Dowdell defeated Danny Gaut, Joe Pruis and David Beaman to reach the final against Wrightson.

Dowdell got off to a flying start and held the lead until around the 18th end with scores level on 90 each.

It was a great display of bowling in very trying conditions, with Wrightson scoring nine to take the win 103 to 97.

In mid week matches, Port MacDonnell Blue 38 shots 2 points lost to Mount Gambier RSL White 48 shots 6 points at RSL.

Chris Negline, Lorraine Mackereth, Rod Sutton and skipper Danny Gaut lost to Garry Burke 13-26.

Julie Beaman, Lance Fisher, David Beaman and skipper Terry Seiler won against David O’Donnell 25-22.

Port MacDonnell Red 32 shots 0 points lost to Mount Gambier RSL Blue 51 shots 8 points at RSL.

Des Horrigan, Nallia Lucas, Heather Richards and skipper Bill Richards lost to Joy Bilney 15-26.

Barrie Schmidt, Carol Schmidt, Keith Dowdell and skipper Robert Hutchesson lost to Gary Fox 17-25.

In the ladies Friday Pennant Division 1 Port MacDonnell 27 shots 0 points lost to Mt Gambier RSL Red 65 shots 8 points.

Nallia Lucas, Jennie Tilley, Carol Schmidt and skipper Heather Richards lost to Joy Bilney 11-41.

Sharon Perryman, Robyn Burley, Jan Dowdell and skipper Judith Grosvenor lost to Jennifer Bowering 16-24.

In Division 2 Port MacDonnell 53 shots 6 points defeated Robe 33 shots 2 points.

Julie Beaman, Heather Fox, Lyn Vanderley and skipper Roma Henderson lost against Tracey Gray 19-21.

Suzanne Connell, Jean Fisher, Lorraine Mackereth and skipper Marilyn Sutton won against Judith Bermingham 34-12.

In the Saturday Open Pennants Division 1 Port MacDonnell 80 shots 12 points defeated Mount Gambier Blue 64 shots 0 points.
