Centrals bundled out of premiership race

Apollo has denied Gambier Centrals a chance to claim a history-making three-peat as it books a date with destiny in a Barry Maney Group Limestone Coast Premier League grand final showdown with International.

Going into the match the result was hard to call with both sides having inconsistent seasons.

Apollo came into the match determined and looked the better side early on.

The match was a real arm wrestle and chances were hard to come by as Apollo opened the scoring with an own goal to take an early lead.

Centrals failed to capitalise on its chances in the first half and needed to respond in the second half to keep its season alive.

In the second half Apollo was very creative and its defence held up well against the Centrals attack.

Eventually Apollo’s momentum was converted into a goal with Gay Nay Say Ler scoring to double his side’s lead.

Centrals searched desperately to open its account and perhaps create a comeback but Apollo’s defenders were determined to keep a clean sheet.

Gay Nay Say Ler’s goal was the sealer and Apollo progressed through to the grand final, eliminating Centrals in the process.

Centrals’ dreams of a three-peat have come to an end and it will look to next season with hopes of returning to the top of the league.

Apollo now will face off against International as it searches for its first premiership since 2010.

It will be a tough contest and Apollo will certainly go in underdogs but will be determined to cause an upset.
