Christmas comes early for Limestone Coast shopaholics

Shoppers from around the region will hit the town in Penola tomorrow evening for some annual late night Christmas shopping.

The event is hosted by the Riddoch Business and Community Association and president Nicole Reschke said a variety of businesses would be open.

“The town is very excited and gearing up for late night shopping,” Ms Reschke said.

“Penola has a great array of shops that people can tick off lots of boxes for their Christmas shopping.

“We are still continuing to really promote people to shop local and really support local again this year and do as much of their Christmas shopping as they can in our region.”

Participating businesses include Koonara Wines, Salt and Co, Di’s Gifts and Flowers, Moss and Wild, Penola Pharmacy, Balnaves of Penola, Attwood Shoes and Westmere Wines.

Businesses will keep their doors open until 8.30pm and Moss and Wild and The Royal Oak Hotel will be serving food.

“We have got a few new businesses in the mix this year which is great,” Ms Reschke said.

“We are going to have some of the carparking spaces along the Main Street turned into dining opportunities.

“We are just really trying to increase the atmosphere of what people will experience while they are late night shopping, we will have Christmas carols pumping out.”

Stores will offer special promotions and people who spend at four stores or more will go in the draw to win a prize worth more than $250 from all participating stores.

A Christmas Tree donated by OneFortyOne will also be unveiled and lit up in the Town Square.

Buses are available to transport people from Mount Gambier and Millicent for a $10 return ticket, available via www.trybooking.com/CDXZT

The Mount Gambier bus will depart from the old Coles carpark at 5.30pm and return approximately 9pm and the Millicent bus will depart from the Millicent Civic and Arts Centre at 5.30pm and return approximately 9pm.

“It is just a good excuse for a night out with some friends and take the chance for some transport to Penola and just relax and get a bit organised for Christmas,” Ms Reschke said.
