Club honour teed up

The Penola Golf Club has welcomed a new life member to its midst, with Maggie Murray receiving the honour.

The announcement was made at the club’s presentation dinner earlier this month.

Ms Murray has been a long serving member of the club and has served as president twice in 2002-2004 and 2015-16.

A woman of many talents, she has also served as catering manager, co-ordinated and cooked for many club events, provided many flower arrangements for the club’s open and closing days and tournaments.

Ms Murray has looked after her own garden bed at the club for many years, often replanting again and again.

She has always put her hand up for working bees and worked on the course many times.

A hole in one is another one her accolades and she has played golf all over the state.

Each season she donates the ladies trophy for the biggest reduction in handicap.

Ms Murray was surprised to receive the life membership.

“Thank you to all of you who were involved in this scheming,” she said.

“I had no idea what was happening. It is a great honour and I am thrilled to belong to this great club.”
