Clubs descend on Millicent

The Millicent Bowls Club held its annual Somerset/Hahn Open Fours competition last Thursday when plenty of action took place.

The day’s program was played with one game of 12 ends in the morning and two games of pairs over the lunch period.

One pair played 10 ends while the second pair had lunch then the reverse took place, while after lunch a second game of fours was played over 12 ends.

No less than 18 teams took part in the day with players coming from Mount Gambier, Mount Gambier RSL, Port MacDonnell and Kingston.

After all of the ends a combined team featuring Mount Gambier and Millicent players emerged on top.

Mount Gambier’s Brian Verwork and Ian VonStanke, plus Millicent’s John Scudds and Iain Campbell were victorious with a total score of 119 points.

Second was an all Millicent team of Steve Carnellor, Eddie Hann, Terry Lonergan and Rob Chambers, who delighted the home crowd with a score of 112.5.

Another local team rounded out the podium.

In third place with a score of 110.5 was Millicent’s Andrea Radley, Robert Radley, Brian Goode and Elaine Goode.

In fourth place was another mixed team of Steve Farrell, Graham Crowder, Garry Feast and Millicent player Aaron Emonson with a score of 89.5.

The best first game winner award went to the team of Adriana Ross, Ian Ross, Mary Clifford and Denis Clifford.

The best second game was recorded by Derek Bowering and John Drew, while Sarah Ross and David Nuske scored the best third game.

Rod Gibbs, Jim Campbell, Andre Reinders and Lurlene Reinders led the way in the fourth game battles.
