Concordes fly high over Millicent

Concordes United and Millicent Bandits faced off in the Mount Gambier Softball League in much more pleasant weather conditions than last week.

Concordes got off to a hot start, scoring 10 runs in the first innings.

Codie Jackway hitting a big two bagger to left field scoring the first runs on the board.

United players then continued to show power with the bat with five safe runs.

Bandits came out strong with the bat with Rebekah Millowick hitting to left field to start.

A safe hit from Bec Fox allowed Millowick to score as well as get herself on base, with another from Lexi Fox scoring their second run.

Maddie H brought up their third run with a safe hit to left field but United were too strong in the field with a double play ending the innings.

The second innings saw United score another six runs.

Some big hits from Julie Beck and Allana Feast allowed newbies Tylar Kennett and Harmony Kennett to score home.

Bandits came back out to bat, but Jones pitched well for United to end the second innings quite quickly.

Thanks to United’s fill in player Billie Jones, they were able to score a few more runs in the last innings with her hit to right field.

Bandits pitchers Maddie Redman and Chantel Macdonald worked hard on the mound backed up by their team, but were unable to stop United from adding to the scoreboard.

Bandits’ third at bat earnt two safe hits but with a combination of tight pitching from Jackway and fielding by the team they were able to bring the game to an end.

The game was played in high spirit but Concordes United walked away with the win 19-3.

Wanderers proved too strong for Concordes White, claiming their round three match 10-6.

Another round of average weather confronted both teams with the pitchers having to overcome yet more strong wind for the third week in a row.

Pitchers from each side in Leanne Little and Karlie Pearson pitched well early with both teams picking up two runs apiece.

It was the second innings where Wanderers bats came alive for the first time this season picking up six runs to Concordes’ zero, with seven of their nine players picking up safe hits in the game.

The game then ebbed and flowed with some really strong defensive play and pitching with Little pitching five strike outs and Pearson four of her own.

Little again proved to be the star of the day with a long triple in the last inning picking up her fourth RBI of the day and adding another two runs for Wanderers.

Concordes loaded the bases late to score four more but it was all too late as Wanderers hit safely nine times to Concordes’ four being the difference and running away with a 10-6 victory.

In the game between Warriors and Demons both sides started off solidly in the field leaving a score of 0-all after the first innings.

Warriors managed to get Sarah Polderman and Kateesha Yates home to score two in the second but were strong again in the field, leaving Demons score at 0.

Warriors’ Leyna Bruggemann pitched strongly, slowing down the usually strong batting Demons and making it hard for them to get on base and score.

Demons managed six runs in the third with a three bagger from Cody Manning, to start the batting frenzy.

Demons did not let Warriors’ fly balls move them forward with Steph Chant, Kaesea Jackson, Meg Merrett and Kezia Feast catching flies throughout the game which ended up being their saving grace.

At the top of the fourth Demons and Warriors were tied with a score of 6-all.

Demons managed one more run in the fourth and held Warriors tight at six runs.

With Warriors last to bat Demons had to make sure their field was faultless.

With no runs being made in the last innings from both teams Demons managed to take away the win by one run, with a final score of 7-6.
