Young star makes baseball history

In the 92-year history of the Central Baseball Club, 15-year-old Bree Ridding is the first woman to play in a Division 1 baseball game for the club.

Bree comes from a baseball family with father Anthony playing Division 3 as does brother Lachlan.

Alex currently plays Division 1 while Dylan, who started at Centrals and is the oldest of the Ridding siblings, plays Division 1 with Sturt.

Her mother Meghan, who also played five games for Central, was a star pitcher for the Wanderers Softball Club.

Bree followed her father and brothers to Central starting with her first game in Under 13, as an 8-year-old, against Naracoorte in 2016.

From that time, she has clocked up 128 games with Central and is currently playing Big League (Under 18).

She was selected in the South Australian team for the 2023 Australian Youth Women’s Championship which was played in Melbourne earlier this year.

Bree was then selected in the South Australian Seahorses Girls Baseball Team for a youth girl’s participation tournament honouring the legendary Jacinda Barclay.

The competition was held in Perth early last month.

They played Queensland in the final but unfortunately lost the game.
