Crouch Shield players brave weather

With the cancellation of the Mount Gambier and District Cricket Association A Grade fixture due to the inclement weather and wet turf pitches, some of the lower grades were left to brave the conditions on Saturday.

In the B Grade East Gambier played South Gambier on McDonald Park ‘s hard wicket and it was East that took the pitch first after the rain.

It was only a matter of time before the first wicket fell, bringing Aiden Creasey to the crease but he only faced a few balls before being run, leaving Aaron Schultz on strike.

Schultz batted well but was looking for some stability to hold up one end.

The person to do that was Jarrad Williams who faced 42 balls for 10 runs before losing his wicket.

It was a slow run rate for the East side with good bowling coming from South’s Elwood Geary.

Schultz eventually lost his wicket in the 16th over, scoring at a run a ball in his 55 runs.

Batting at number five, Angus Clarke had his eye in from the first ball and made the most of the opportunities that arose.

Clarke did not have the opportunity of any long-term partnership with his teammates as they lost their wickets quickly, but at the end of the innings it was Schultz and Clarke who took the East team to a competitive score of 7/160.

Bowling for the South side was led by Jed Sims with two wickets and single wickets to Geary and Ryan Kuhl.

Chasing down the target set by East Gambier was slow for the South team when David Vine lost his wicket in the second over of the game to a lbw appeal on just one run.

Geary and Jed Sims put their heads down and pulled together a partnership to bring some respectability to the score, however Geary on 12 lost his wicket to a catch off the bowling of Jack Lawrence.

It was not long after that South struck again with Sims being bowled by Lawrence and a costly mistake in the run chase cost the wicket of Ethan Sims with a run out.

Ryan Kuhl and Nick Seager ground out a 67-run partnership before Seager lost his wicket on eight and left Kuhl to continue the chase.

Kuhl was the mainstay of Souths run chase along with Jake Hollis on 27.

Lawrence for East took three wickets while Thomas Graney took one with .

South ran out winners by 14 runs.
