Dozens of dogs and their owners turned out for the inaugural ‘Dog’s Breakfast’ on Sunday morning at the Millicent Dog Park behind the Visitor Information Centre.
Among the curious canines was Darby who is the seventh dog of the popular Labrador breed to be owned by Millicent couple Trevor and Trixi Sinclair.
Darby is cream-coloured but the Sinclairs have had other colours over the years.
“He takes his name from my late Uncle Darby Sinclair who was quite a character,” Mr Sinclair said.
“He worked as a forester but was a SP bookie as well.”
Mr Sinclair praised the organisers of the Dog’s Breakfast and it was jointly presented by Wattle Range Council and the Cat and Dog Management Board.
Dog owners could learn about socialisation, nutrition and behaviour techniques and engage with local stakeholder services.
Wattle Range Mayor Des Noll judged the Paws Parade with first prize going to Tania Medoro’s Bronson, which donned a green hat and jacket to resemble a leprechaun.
Puppy Portraits were arranged via Mills Media of Beachport.
There were vouchers towards desexing and microchipping, and other giveaways at the stalls.
A free Hot Dog Breakfast was provided by the Millicent and Surrounds Health Support Group.
Millicent and Kingston Veterinary Clinics co-owner Dr Sarah McGrath shared her vast knowledge of dogs.
Council’s general inspectors were also on hand to answer queries.
