Eagles make most of home turf advantage in final round clash

Penola has secured a semi-finals place after a dominant win over Mil Lel at McCorquindale Park during round five.

Mil Lel won the toss and opted to bat, however the early wicket of Ty Dinnison for a golden duck got the visitors off to a poor start.

Dinnison fell to a Joshua Doyle delivery before Doyle quickly took another wicket of Mason Brown for three.

Brodie Pfitzner and William Rowland found some runs for Mil Lel but Penola scored an important breakthrough at the right moment.

Jack Mullan provided the breakthrough for Penola with Pfitzner caught on 12, and shortly after Mullan caught and bowled Rowland for 23 off 25 balls.

Mil Lel was batting slowly and had a small total of 4/51 when Rowland was dismissed.

Mitchell Douglas hit 16 off 23 balls when Doyle took a third wicket, and Archer Virtanen became a fourth for Doyle.

Miller was the final wicket of the innings with Logan Gibbs taking his first wicket of the match.

Darcy Williamson finished 22 not out as Mil Lel had a total of 7/94 to defend.

Joshua Doyle was outstanding with the ball taking 4/13, while Jack Mullan was also impressive with two important wickets.

Chasing a low total Jack Mullan and James Alexander came out attacking and looked to finish the chase quickly.

The pair scored at a good rate as they passed a 50 run opening stand.

James Alexander quickly got to 34 off 38 deliveries which included five fours.

Jack Mullan was the more damaging player at the crease scoring at an incredible rate getting to 46 off 40 balls with four fours and two sixes.

At the start of the 14th over Penola was 0/86, only requiring nine runs to win as Mullan blasted a six to bring up his half century and then smashed another the very next ball to secure the win for
Penola.

Penola had won well enough to bring about a miracle and book a spot in the finals, having started the round at the bottom of the ladder.

For Mil Lel the result brings an end to its finals hopes in the big bash competition.
