Eyes turn to women’s footy finals

The Limestone Coast Women’s Football League wrapped up its final round for the home and away season on the weekend, with some of the top teams finding some great late form as they head into finals.

In the last game before finals, Casterton Sandford finished off its season on a high with a solid win over the Saints.

In the first quarter the Cats dominated, having nine shots on goal, but only converting two.

The Saints on the other hand kept the game in reach with a goal of their own.

At quarter time the Cats had a 12 point lead.

In the second quarter the Cats continued to struggle in front of goal as they only came up with one goal while Millicent improved from the first quarter kicking three and reducing Casterton’s lead to four 
points.

In the second half the Cats locked up the Saints, holding them scoreless for the quarter and kicking two goals to increase their lead to 17 at the last break.

The Saints made a late push in the final term, scoring a goal, but it was not enough as the Cats kicked a goal of their own to seal the game.

Casterton Sandford’s Hinemoa Biddle-Maitland had a great performance, kicking three goals in the game.

Kybybolite V Kongorong

Kybybolite had a nice win over Kongorong on Sunday and finished the season in the top four.

The Tigers started the game hot, owning the football and not letting the Hawks get a shot on goal while slotting four of their own to hold a 29 point at the break.

Kyby lost its scoring momentum in the second quarter, failing to convert any shots at goal into majors, but managed to hold a comfortable 33 point lead and hold the Hawks scoreless again.

In the third quarter the Tigers’ scoring struggles continued as they kicked one goal and seven points, but defensively they were on point and did not let the Hawks chip into their lead which stretched to 46 at the main

break.

In the final term the Hawks finally had some scoring shots but could only muster two points while the Tigers added to their lead with two goals to finish the game.

Kybybolite’s Taylor Ryan helped her side get the win with a four goal performance.

Kybybolite defeated Kongorong 7.16 (58) to 0.2 (2)

Nangwarry V North Gambier

North Gambier finished its season with a dominant display over Nangwarry.

North put the game out of reach in the first quarter, kicking 10 goals in the quarter and holding the Saints scoreless to have a 62 point
 lead.

The Tigers kept the goals coming in the second quarter, kicking five to blow their lead out to 95 at half time.

The Saints continued to struggle to stop the Tigers as they piled on another seven goals to lead by 141 at the last change.

Nanwarry finally had time with the ball in the 50 but could only get three points in the last quarter.

North Gambier’s Chloe Newton finished the game with an amazing 11 goal performance.

North Gambier defeated Nangwarry 27.9 (171) to 0.3 (3)

With the final round wrapped up, North Gambier’s Chloe Newton finished as the leading goal kicker with 30 goals.

Finals begin next week with two pools all playing at Blue Lake Sports Park.
