The Yahl Primary School will host its Spring Fair on-site tomorrow from 3.30pm to 7pm.
The fair is a student driven event that provides the opportunity for small groups of the school’s Year 5 and 6 students to develop a business plan for a stall, explore and develop ideas for a stall of activities, produce or consumables through a business plan, costings and timelines that all match to curriculum objectives around financial literacy.
Each of the other classes also develop their own stalls and share the planning, creating and hosting of the stall supported by our great staff.
This year’s offerings include a wide range of activities, displays and food options that offer great value for a family outing.
Those attending the fair can purchase books of $1 valued tickets at the entry gate to use as tender at all the stalls so those with young families can give younger children opportunities to engage in purchases and payments.
There will be EFTPOS available to purchase the tickets.
Food options will include sausages, hamburgers, hot chips, hot dogs, crepes, icecream, fairy floss, Devonshire teas and more with a variety of soft drinks, tea and coffee available too.
Principal Christine Morrison said the biannual Spring Fair is a fundraising event with funds going towards asphalt games courts and a new nature playground to follow the new build of classrooms in 2025/26.
“It’s wonderful for our students to be engaged in such a hands-on fashion in the fundraising for their school,” she said.
“We had our student leadership team give up their Show Day holiday to personally ask businesses in the Mount Gambier CBD to support their school. They took responsibility and were commended by business owners for their professionalism.
“The children’s ideas for this year’s fair will make this one a fair to remember.”
Ms Morrison said there would also be a silent disco with all the frills, laser lights and action for children and adults to show their dancing prowess.
There will be live music too, with the local Yahl choir and music students taking to the stage to share their talents.
The afternoon will kick off with the St Martins Jazz Ensemble and some other local young people also enjoying the opportunity to play publicly throughout .
A silent auction of 10-12 large professional artworks donated by an Adelaide Gallery will be on display.
There will also be raffles for adults and a free children’s raffle with lots of prizes to be won.
Additionally, there will be crafts, a dunking machine, lucky dip, sideshow games, mini golf, steam train rides and show bags, ensuring fun for all ages.
The Vintage Car Club will display their highly polished and beautifully restored cars as well as the SE Street Machines.
There will be tarot readings which must be booked through the school prior to the event and the CFS and SES will also have interactive displays that are fun and informative.
This is a small school and local community event for families that’s affordable fun for a Spring afternoon.
