Mount Gambier teen ballerina Holly Allison has taken to the stage in Melbourne for the prestigious Victorian State Ballet dance company’s senior production of Snow White.

Following a successful audition in February, Holly travelled to Melbourne for a six-hour practice every weekend for 10 weeks.

Holly, 14, is now considering the Victoria State Ballet Pre-Professional Program and one of her goals is to make it into the Victoria State Ballet company.

The pre-professional program is an initiative to provide students around 18-19 years old with the highest level of classical ballet training in technical and artistic skill for today’s dance industry standards.

“I think once I get a bit older I will look into doing the pre-professional program which then also leads into the company,” she said.

Holly said her recent performance felt like a step up from her role in the Victorian State Youth Ballet company’s production of Sleeping Beauty in 2021.

“Because they have the company and the pre-professional program linked on it gives me a bit more opportunities than the state youth ballet did,” she said.

The teen ballerina has been dancing for over 10 years at Maryke Dance Studio under Maxine Lockwood and was sponsored by Sorrentos Café, Kettle Logging and Wreckett.

Holly said she danced as the queen’s maid and a fairy in the production.

“With the queen’s maid at the beginning because Snow White’s mum was the queen, we were all sort of like happy and everything and sort of bubbly,” she said.

“Then when she dies, and the evil queen comes in we were like scared of her and everything.

“The ballroom dance … everyone was in that and that was when the evil queen married the king and then the fairies we were just like creatures in the forest scene.

“I think my favourite dance was probably the fairies dance.”

Holly has been selected to perform with the Victorian State Ballet production of ballet classic Swan Lake in Melbourne at the Palais Theatre in August.
