Farmland attracts big bids

Arecord auction price of almost $13,000 per acre for broadacre Furner farming land was paid at a Millicent auction on Monday morning.

Local interests paid $700,000 for a 55-acre parcel of land on the Gillap Summer Track.

The auction was held at the Millicent Football Netball Club at McLaughlin Park and attended by 16 interested people.

The vendor was the executor of the estate of Lorna Bowman who died at Millicent in January of last year at the age of 99.

The property was marketed by South East Property Sales and Management while the auctioneer was local agent John Chay.

He opened the proceedings with a vendor bid of $380,000.

Other bids then quickly followed from three parties.

Local Elders agent Grant Schubert took instructions from an undisclosed client via a mobile phone and he made the highest bid.
