Wulanda wows on grand scale

An exclusive tour for local media was held last week following considerable interest to take a look at the state-of-the-art facility.

I was one of those invited to take part.

I consider it a privilege to be able to gain behind-the-scenes access where only few have been able to.

I could not contain my immediate first impressions as we entered through the southern end. Believe me when I say “wow”. What an impressive undertaking.

The building itself and the work from concept to what the community is expected to receive at completion has been well thought through.

The sheer scale of such a vision has the wow factor everywhere. Everything from the architectural aesthetics to the features and functionality of each room has meaning and purpose.

Meeting the diverse needs of the community has clearly been taken into consideration.

Not everything is fool proof and there has already been issues to overcome to this point.

The true test will be when the centre opens and is fully functional to the community.

This December has been dubbed the “soft” opening for the community to take their first steps inside and see for themselves what all the hype has been about.

Even if you do not intend to use the facility, it certainly is well worth even just taking a look for yourself to appreciate the unique masterpiece.

There has been scrutiny from the get-go. I’m full of encouragement and enthusiasm. It’s a feat I believe does deserve to be commended for what has been achieved thus far.

I hope it meets the expectations of the community. The work that has gone in to providing the community with this kind of multi-purpose facility is one that I hope can serve for many years to come.

For me, one of the features I look forward to is using the children’s toilets at the creche.

It may be a mundane choice, but as a mum of two young kids, a public toilet catering for their needs makes our days out-and-about easier.

Looking around, up and down, there is an appreciation for the work that has gone into the making of Wulanda.

I was also impressed by the dedication put into making the facility inclusive for all, especially how it functions for all ages and abilities.

It’s a credit to each and every person involved. From those managing the project through to the workers on the ground making the vision a reality.
