Farmland sale nears $4m

Arobust price of almost $8300 per acre for broad acre Furner grazing land was paid at a Millicent auction on Friday afternoon.

Fourth-generation Millicent farmer Tom Bell paid $3.8m for 458 acres with stock yards.

Mr Bell’s bid of $3m got the auction under way and there were $200,000 and then $100,000 increments.

His family has land in this area as does the under-bidder.

The vendors were Phillip and Danielle Bowman and they will continue to farm other land of theirs.

The auction was held at the Millicent Football Netball Club and attended by 43 interested people.

The farming communities of Furner, Millicent, Rendelsham, Thornlea and Hatherleigh were well represented at the sale.

Several interested parties from near and far had inspected the land which has frontage to the direct sealed road which links Millicent and Furner.

The property was marketed by South East Property Sales and Management while the auctioneer was local agent John Chay.

“The sale represented a unique opportunity to secure a highly-regarded grazing property,” Mr Chay said.

“It is high and dry.”
