Fathers’ Day fundraiser held at Millicent’s Domain precinct

The focus was on families, fun and fitness when the Millicent Cancer Support Group staged a successful Fathers’ Day fundraiser at the Domain Playground and Jubilee Park in Millicent on Sunday.

Dubbed ‘Millicent Walks 2 Fight Cancer’, the walkers read inspirational messages about fatherhood and family life as they raised funds and walked the 2.5km circuit.

The support group has staged such annual walks since 2013 after beginning with Mothers’ Day walks 14 years ago.

Among the keen participants were Millicent couple Rob and Sandy Hamilton.

“We began doing these walks years ago when my mother was still alive,” Mr Hamilton said.

“We continue to support the cancer group.”

Millicent Cancer Support Group committee member Karla Werchon said the number of participants was around 50. She said this number was below usual and was due to the grey skies and winter sporting finals being played in Millicent.

Ms Werchon said the support group was now looking forward to its next fundraiser at Millicent early in 2022.

It will be a luncheon at the Somerset Hotel dubbed Girls Day Out.
