Festival fun for all ages

Millicent’s Geltwood Festival will return in October with the program now announced.

The annual Geltwood Festival returns to Millicent next month and with plenty of activities planned over the weekend, the festival is set to have something for everyone.

The Geltwood Festival Committee, in partnership with Wattle Range Council and the Millicent Show Society, has designed a jam-packed three-day program of workshops, markets, exhibitions, live music, a disco, a two-day skate competition, kids’ activities and an open day at the Millicent Museum.

The program will launch in the Millicent Gallery on October 20 at 6pm with feature artist Jennie Matthews and concludes with the Quilting Convention on October 23 at the Millicent Civic and Arts Centre.

Patrons can get their craft on by signing up for a paint-and-sip with Jacky Morris, create your own quilted wall hanging, or make a bag workshops.

There will be a combined market at the Millicent Showgrounds on the Saturday from 9am to 1pm, while the Millicent Gallery will display textile and mixed media art and quilts.

The YMCA will be organising a Skate Park Leagues competition on October 21 and All Aboard Skateboarding Sessions the next day at the town’s skate park.

The Millicent Rotunda parklands will host a family fun event on the Saturday night with live music by talented locals Jason and Christy Wallace, food and drinks stalls, kids’ entertainment, reptile display and face painting.

The Wattle Range Youth Advisory Council will also host its inaugural youth disco at the RSL Hall.

There will be an exhibition at the Millicent Gallery and a wearable art display at Ants Redgum Gallery, with an afternoon tea hosted by IMAG.

The Millicent National Trust Museum will host an open day on the Sunday, while there will also be a mural and sculpture walk with IMAG.

Wattle Range Council community development manager Caroline Hill said she was looking forward to seeing the town buzzing with activity.

“It’s a great opportunity to showcase the creativity and diverse offerings of Millicent for locals and visitors,” she said.

“We invite you all to come and join in the fun.”
