Festivities spill into street

The Penola Coonawarra community came together to celebrate the festive season on Friday evening at the town’s annual street party.

Riddoch Business and Community Association President Nicole Reschke said it was a great turnout of local families.

“It was the most beautiful, balmy night, a great night for everyone to be out and about, catching up and having a nice, cold glass of Coonawarra wine,” Ms Reschke said.

“Everyone had a great time, lots of smiles on the kids’ faces.”

The event was filled with fun for the whole family, with activities and entertainment for adults and children alike.

Santa made a grand arrival in the local CFS truck to give children chocolate and lollies and families enjoyed horse and cart rides around Penola.

There was a great selection of local food and beverages available for people to enjoy and Ms Reschke said everyone had a great evening in a relaxed atmosphere.

“They could have some nice food and a drink and catch up with their friends before Christmas and just let the kids run around and have a great time in a nice, safe environment,” she said.

The Skeer family was announced as the Stuffed Santa Community Exhibition 2021 winners on the evening with their display, ‘Hay Bluey, it’s Christmas!,’ which received 159 votes.

They took home prizes and their name will be added to the Stuffed Santa Shield.

Ms Reschke thanked the Riddoch Business and Community Association committee, Penola IGA Fresh, the Merrett family, Wattle Range Council and everyone else involved in bringing the event together for the community.
