Ford fastback race day ready

While all the hype and excitement may have been around last Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup, the kind of horsepower that gets my motor running lay in wait at Barry Maney Ford in the form of the seventh generation 2025MY Ford Mustang GT Fastback.

With 5.0-litres of V8-powered pony to get your heart racing, the all new Ford Mustang GT weighs in with a power figure of 345kW – slightly more than the previous generation, while torque figures hover around 550Nm to get your Stang running wild on the open road with either a 10-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission.

While on the outside the styling and shape of the muscle car are unmistakably Mustang, there is a number of visual enhancements over the previous generation to give the fan-favourite fastback an even sharper look.

A notably more angular front bumper and grill are the first signs of the Mustang facelift, while functional dual bonnet vents not only look the business, but also help disperse heat from the high powered V8 residing underneath.

Sleek LED headlights have also been tweaked on this years model, which gives the entire front end a more menacing overall style.

The side profile of the Mustang GT remains similar and the snowflake style 19-inch alloy wheels also look the part, but there is no hiding the absolute monster Brembo brake calipers and rotors that will stop you on a dime.

The rear of the 2025MY Mustang has also received a more tapered design, and while at first glance it may look similar to the previous generation, there are a number of differences to be found here too.

Sleek LED tail lights have been given a freshen up to be more angular, while the rear boot also follows the same path to continue the flow of the body lines.

Another nice touch and nod to the Mustang’s history is infused into the rear window of the vehicle, with outlines of all seven generations of Ford Mustang visible in the glass.

Rounding out the rear of the vehicle are dual-twin tipped exhaust pipes which really unleash the throaty V8 sound and get your senses tingling when you step on the loud pedal in performance modes.

Not only has the outside of the Mustang received an overhaul, but inside is also much different to the previous generation.

A fully digital and customisable 12.4-inch cluster is parked directly in front of the driver seat, ensuring the speedo and rpm readouts can keep up with the fast-revving V8 powerplant.

As mentioned, the display can be customised to suit owners preferred styling, with the theme able to match drive modes or permanently be placed into Normal, Sport, Race or Calm designs with one option replicating the older generation of mustang for a bit of a ‘retro’ touch.

Infotainment has also received a nice refresh, with a 13.2-inch touch screen unit housed neatly alongside the digital cluster to provide a neat and tidy package.

This unit has allowed for the removal of climate control buttons and toggle switches which creates a much neater interior and dash design free of clutter.

Heated and ventilated leather seats help keep you warm or cool no matter the weather, while wireless phone charging, wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto mean you can cast your favourite audio tracks and supported apps with ease.

If you ever get tired of listening to the sound of the rumbly Ford Coyote 5.0-litre engine, a top-notch 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system with amp and subwoofer will turn the cabin of your Mustang into a live performance stadium, which was well and truly put to the test and passed with flying colours.

As far as safety and driver assists are concerned, the Mustang is equipped with pre-collision and autonomous emergency braking assistance, adaptive cruise control and lane centering systems, reverse brake assistance and post collision braking to help minimize injury and vehicle damage should you ever come unstuck.

But what you’re really waiting to hear is just how the mighty Mustang drives and handles – and the answer is simple… bloody incredible!

Pressing the engine start button and hearing the V8 rumble into life just makes you smile, it genuinely makes you feel great!

Power delivery? Incredible.
 Steering response? Incredible.
Throaty V8 sound? You betchya – incredible! And this is before you even bring the Mustang GT to life and stiffen the vehicle up in Sport or Track modes.

Autoblips and rev-matching on downshifts give you that race-car feel, it really is a driver’s car – perfect for the day to day drive and even better for the weekend.

Just a quick look into the side mirrors and seeing the powerful rear quarter panels bulging makes you realise just what a beast you have sitting beneath you.

And boy does it make a statement on the road – to the lady in the white SUV near the Pick Avenue and Jubilee Highway East traffic lights… yes, we saw you, and yes we loved this car just as much as you!

This is a car that really sells itself, so if you’re in the market for a new car and have a need for speed, pop down to check out the all new Ford Mustang GT Fastback at Barry Maney Ford, I have a feeling you will not want to leave empty handed!
