Fringe brings city centre alive

The hype is already building in the lead up to the return of the Fringe Mount Gambier/Berrin street party and Fringeland, due to kick off in March next year.

The event is returning to the heart of the city, following three years of COVID restrictions and cancellations.

The 10 day festival will start on March 24 and run through to April 2.

Cabaret artist and Fringeland MC Tash York is counting the days til the event gets under way.

“I have been making sure I stop by the fabulous Fringe Mount Gambier every year I can,” she said.

“The gorgeous audiences topped with even more gorgeous festival staff every year gets bigger and better.

“With the return of Fringeland to the Cave Garden in 2023, where you’ll see yours truly as MC, it’s honestly my favourite way to top off my summer touring season!”

‘Bait Fridge’ performer and visual artist Henry Jock Walker is keen to return to Mount Gambier.

“The Bait Fridge had an extraordinary time participating in Fringe Mount Gambier – 2022 and we are very excited to return to Fringeland and develop an even wider range of contributions across the Fringe program for 2023,” he said.

Respected Elder and Meintangk Moandik and Naungga woman Yawuri Penny Bonney will be a First Nations cultural advisor to the festival.

“Martu Karu mriya-mriyil – to my many friends and mob out there.

“Keep your time space free for the exciting 2023 Fringeland and Lift Off street party coming right from our very own spiritual cave called Thugi, at the heart of Berrin,” she said.

“If you want to see great entertainment, we will see you there at Thugi.”

Metro Café & Bakery’s Toni Vorenas has great memories of the Fringe street party.

“We’re so excited for Fringe 2023 especially the launch which next year will include the Fringe street party,” she said.

There’s just something about a community coming together and celebrating on the streets that’s simply magic.”
