Fringe lands in city

It’s time to hold onto your hats as Fringe Mount Gambier launches tomorrow night with FRINGELAND at the Mount Gambier Showgrounds.

The free family-friendly event starts at 4pm with a program that promises to be ‘Out of This World’.

Live music on the main stage features Melbourne duo Cry Club with their unique style of queer noise pop, as well as the anthems of Peter Combe which will have the kids up dancing and parents reliving their childhood memories.

Local acts set to take the main stage include the soulful tunes of Yawuri Penny Bonney, the NPC’s, In the Kitchen, Tyrell Bonney, and the first local show of the year by Chelsea Manor.

And if acrobatics is more your thing then you’re in for a treat with internationally renowned troupe Gravity & Other Myths performing A Simple Space and pushing their physical limits without reserve.

The Flying Flamingos will take fringe-goers to new heights with their aerial performances, and there will be plenty of unicycling, hula-hooping, fire twirling, magic tricks and fabulous personas within roving circles.

The Dance Mat offers awe-inspiring performances as well, with local duo Anton & Espoire, as well as the award-winning Satori Promenade by Lewis Major Projects, bellydances by Alluring Gem, Burmese cultural dances and Fringe’s favourite local Michael Jackson impersonator.

Henry Jock Walker and his team Bait Fridge will entertain with their elaboratively constructed costumes and interactive art forms, and as the sun sets the showgrounds will light up with Video Architecture by Jim Coad and local video artist Luke Pellen, and Aunty Penny and Bonnie-May Saunders will take the stage for a Welcome to Country ceremony followed by the Koondoom Yarkeen Karweeyn dancers.

Fringe-goers will be able to grab a drink from one of the bars, have a meal from one of the street food trucks, bring a picnic blanket and settle in for a night of Fringe fun.

Those wanting to hop between Fringe venues can travel on the free Fringe bus looping from the showgrounds into the CBD all night.

There is no fee to enter, except for the ticketed adult-only MOIST performance inside the hall.

Masks are only required for congested areas.

It’s time to sing, dance, be fringey and do not forget to visit www.fringemountgambier.com.au to check out the whole nine day program.
