There will be plenty of action on and off the track at the Scott Group of Companies 2023 Mount Gambier Gold Cup tomorrow.
The racing action will take place at the Allan Scott Glenburnie Racecourse which is ready to hit the ground running restriction-free this year.
Mount Gambier Racing Club General Manager Brett Watson said he looked forward to the event returning to its full capacity.
“We are excited for no restrictions and over the past few years we had a couple of track issues and COVID and everything else, but everything is on track and heading towards all ready to go,” he said.
“Last year we were capped at 1000 people, but we are hoping for anywhere from 2000 to 3000 people, which would be fantastic, we just encourage everyone to get along and support the event.”
“We have got the Koonara and Globe Hotel marquees, there are still tickets available,” Mr Watson said.
“We have plenty of general admission options, we have a Good Tides garden – a big public garden with tables, chairs and umbrellas, a bar, TAB facilities and music.”
The day will include an eight-race program, with the Scott Group of Companies Mount Gambier Gold Cup the big-ticket event.
Mr Watson said there were more than 120 nominations for the day and over $200,000 in prize money was on offer across the day.
Fashion enthusiasts will also get dressed up and put their best foot forward for Fashions on the Field to catch the eyes of judges including local racing fashion enthusiast Brianna Scanlon, local entrepreneur Molly Stratford and former local Jennifer Mancuso, who is travelling from Melbourne with several years’ experience as a fashion stylist.
Registrations will be accepted from 12pm at the Fashions on the Field desk in the Good Tides garden area.
Mr Watson hoped for good weather on the day, however if it did rain there were lots of options for everyone to avoid the elements.
Mr Watson said the Scott Group of Companies Mount Gambier Gold Cup was a great social event and encouraged people to come along and enjoy a good day out while supporting the local club and community.
“There has been a lot of people over the years and that is what we are trying to bring it back to, over the years it has just been a big social event,” he said.
“It is an economic benefit for everyone as well, so if you go out and buy a dress, buy a suit or anything like that, get your hair and makeup done, it is all added revenue for the whole city.”
Gates open at 11.30am and the first race gets under way around 12.45pm, with the last race around 5.10pm.
“We will have music in the Globe Hotel marquee open to everyone for an hour after the last race as well,” Mr Watson said.
