Golfers take to fairways

Forty-eight lady golfers took to the fairways at the Mount Gambier Golf Club, enjoying fine weather and participating in the exacting stroke round, in conjunction with a Stableford competition.

The winner of Division 1 was Jess Parsons (89-20-69 nett).

Jess played very steady golf and recorded five pars on the scorecard, her split for the two nines was 43/46=89 off the stick.

It was pleasing to see Val Grubb (95-21-74 nett) returning to golf and taking out second placing in Division 1.

Val had 46/49 on the two nines and included six pars.

In Division 2 Sue Coulter, who has been knocking on the door for a win, came first with (98-27-71 nett).

Sue’s split for the two nines was 50/48 off the stick.

Deb Sheather (114-42-72 nett) has been playing consistent golf and was rewarded for her second placing on the leader board in Division 2.

Deb had 56/58 =114 off the stick and recorded pars on the par three 6th and 8th holes.

Seven balls were handed to ladies in the ball run down.

The recipients were Rosalie Hunt, Maxine McGregor, Penne Saffin, Helen Heaver, Linda Boylan, Kathie Ewer and Faye Mainwaring.

The second shots on the 10th par three hole went to A Grade’s Di O’Donnell, B Grade’s Helen Heaver (for a birdie) and C Grade’s Sue Downes.

Eleven ladies opted to play a stableford competition and having 41 points was Sue McPherson winning the day.

Sue played really nice golf having two four pointers and five three pointers and no wipe-outs on her card.

Sue said in all the time playing golf the day was the first time she could say “what an easy game golf is”.

Great golfing weather was welcomed by 19 lady golfers at the Mount Gambier Golf Club competing in a par round, sponsored by Empak Homes.

Relishing her return to golf, Val Grubb (handicap 20) went one better than Wednesday’s runner up and was the winner of the day recording all square.

Val played very well having 46 off the stick on the front nine and with 51 off the stick on the difficult back nine managed to win the day.

Second placing went to Jennifer Van Ritjhoven (handicap 13) registering one down. Jennifer’s split for the nines was two down and one up = 1-.

Six balls were handed out to Marie Douglas 1- down to Penne Saffin 5-.
