Hard-charger lines up west coast gig

Mount Gambier’s Steven Lines has been recruited to the J&S Drilling Motorsport outfit for the 22/23 racing season.

The hard charger Lines will pilot the W60 for the major races on the west coast for season, starting with the annual WA Sprintcar Championship at Perth Motorplex this Saturday night.

Lines is no stranger to the west coast, racing many times there over the years and still holds the one lap track record at Bunbury Speedway of 12.68 seconds.

His knowledge of the Kwinana Beach circuit is also profound, and he is keen to sink his teeth into his brand-new ride.

Racing on the bigger tracks in WA is an opportunity for Lines, one that he will grab onto with both hands, while trying to get a win for his new team in the process.

Team owner John McLellan was rapt to have Lines in the car for the remainder of the racing season ahead;

“We’re really happy to get Steven in the car for us,” he said.

“His experience in the sport is profound and he carries some weight into the team as well.”

A 25-plus car field will line up for state title glory on Saturday night and Lines knows he will have to bring his A game to be in the fight come feature race time.

Racing with many teams across the years will place him in good stead for the season ahead and he is not, in any way, intimidated by the rivals he will face as the season progresses.

The season will culminate in the biggest challenge of all, being the 60th annual Australian Sprintcar Championship in February, an event that is on the South Aussie’s bucket list.

With laps around the Perth Motorplex circuit completed and under his belt this season, it will place him in good stead for what lies ahead.

A stellar field of drivers will line up for what will be a strong showing on Saturday night, with Lines hoping for a top 10 finish to kick off proceedings.

The vast amount of racing experience he carries provides confidence the team can achieve their goal and also place their mark on such a coveted event on the annual racing calendar.

With the driver, the crew chief in Keith Giles and a solid team in support, Saturday night’s title fight is looking to be a great launching platform for the team and one that will hopefully bring good fortunes for the season ahead.
