Health leader in region

South Australian Senator and Federal Shadow Minister for Health and Aged Care Anne Ruston was in the Limestone Coast earlier this week following the State Government’s recent funding announcement for three 24/7 pharmacies for Adelaide.

Ms Ruston joined Liberal Ben Hood MLC and Member for Barker Tony Pasin outside the Gambier City Pharmacy for a press conference.

“Ben Hood has been a very loud advocate for making sure that rural and regional Australia and South Australia gets the same treatment as the city does and we have just seen three 24-7 pharmacies announced in Adelaide,” she said.

“His argument which is a very valid argument is ‘why cannot we have them in rural and regional areas as well?’

“I am here most particularly to speak to service providers like the people here at Gambier City pharmacy and to just find out what the challenges are in rural and regional Australia.

“Most particularly so I know first hand the difference between the services that have been provided in rural and regional Australia in comparison to what people in metropolitan areas get.

“Simply because it (Mount Gambier) has got the largest population outside of Adelaide it seems like the most obvious first place for this to go.”

Ms Ruston also met with the Radiation Treatment Limestone Coast Working Party on her whirlwind tour of the region.
