Hot scores recorded

Thirty intrepid ladies teed off for a stableford round last week in hot and windy conditions which was sponsored by Mount Gambier Golf Club member Lorraine Stratford.


Some good scores were achieved in both divisions despite the trying conditions.


A stand-out for the day was Julie Hanel with 43 points in Division 2, playing off a handicap of 40.


Her splits of 20/23 included three pointers on the 2, 3, 9, 12 and 16 holes, as well as four pointers on the 6 and 11 holes.


Six strokes behind in Division 2 was Deb Fowler with 37 points playing off a 33 handicap, with splits of 18/19.


She scored pars on the 8, 16 and 17 holes for four points each.


Winner in Division 1 was Denise Harvey playing off a handicap of 20 with a solid 35 points.


Her splits were 14/21.


She scored three points on the 3, 14 and 16 holes with a lovely birdie on the 18th for four points.


Separated only by a countback was Heather Barry in second place for Division 1 also with 35 points, splits of 17/18.


She scored pars on the 2, 9 


and 10 holes.


Prizes were awarded for the pro-shot on the 8th to Jennifer Van Rijthoven and nearest the pin in A Grade fell to Leeanne Hunt, B Grade Betty McKechnie and C Grade Debbie Sheather.


Ball run downs included six players from Helen Heaver on 36 points to Jeanette Braun on 34 points.


On Saturday 19 ladies played in the South West Freight Stroke Round.


First and second prizes were taken out by Faye Mainwaring with a nett 73.


With a split of 41/11/43 she scored pars on the 1, 5, 6, 9, 1 1, 17 and 18 holes.


Close behind was Jess Parsons on 74 nett and her splits were 43/19/50 with pars on the 1, 5, 6, 8, 12, 16 and 18.


The ball rundown saw eight players rewarded with Yvonne Shirley on 75 down to Josie Ashby on 83.


The pro-shot on the 8th was taken out by Penne Saffin and nearest the pin 16th was taken by Lyndal McInerney.
