Juniors hit court for new season

The Southern Ports Tennis Association kicked off their second season of junior tennis on Saturday with games played at Kingston, Millicent and Naracoorte.

It was great to see future stars of tennis back out on the courts.

This season sees Naracoorte again fielding four teams, two for Lucindale and one each for Kingston and Millicent.

Despite the weather, the morning was a hit with lots of close matches played and plenty of newcomers to the game.

Naracoorte Blue d Lucindale Roos: 44 games to 32
Agreat start to the season despite the weather saw Naracoorte Blue and Lucindale Roos have a great hit out.

Some new players had some solid rallies in the doubles.

Max Lush (NB) and Harry Robinson (LR) both had convincing wins in their singles.

Ernie Bucket (LR) fought hard to win a tough contest with Sid Wilkin.

Archie Brodie and Ashton Reti had a good start to their junior tennis career, both winning their singles.

Kingston d Naracoorte Red: 52 games to 25
It was an excellent start to the season and all the kids had a fun day out in very windy conditions.

Kingston proved to be a strong side, only dropping one set for the day.

Well done to Jack Starling (K) winning his singles 6-3 on his birthday.

There was great sportsmanship from all the players.

Millicent d Naracoorte White: 31 games to 20
It was great to have all the players back on court in Millicent.

Both teams could only fill four spots with Millicent taking the win by 11 games after some great hitting.

A long singles match between Axel Joyce (M) and Toby Drew (N) saw Axel take the win

6-3.

Thanks to Naracoorte for making the trip to Millicent for Round 1, we’re glad the sun also decided to join us after a cold start.

Naracoorte Yellow d Lucindale Koalas: 46 games to 24
Aside from a few short rain showers the first round was a good one with Naracoorte Yellow being too strong for the Koalas, winning 46 to 24.

There were some notable matches of the morning.

Thomas Malone and Cody Crocker battled out a singles, Thomas winning 6-2.

Digby and Missy McGregor both secured 6-3 wins.

While Vander Maywald and Cody Crocker gained a good win for the Roos in the top double, 6-3.

Well done to all on some great rallies and matches.

At the end of Round 1, Kingston sits at the top of the ladder followed closely by Naracoorte Yellow and Naracoorte Blue.

Millicent, Naracoorte White and Lucindale Roos hold the middle spots with Naracoorte Red and Lucindale Koalas both looking to get back to full strength next week.
