Keenest golfers stand the heat

Asmaller field than usual, because of the heat, witnessed 33 ladies commencing the par round earlier than normal times at the Mount Gambier Golf Club last week.

The best score for the day was in Division 2 and went to Mary Kentish (handicap 30) recording a great score of four up.

Mary gained all her points on the front nine and kept the game together coming out square on the back nine.

The two par threes on the front nine were kind and produced two wins.

In second placing in Division 2, newcomer Mardi Goodes (handicap 30), excelled on the front nine with six up, however, the difficult back nine registering four down pulled her score back to a still very acceptable two up.

Mardi had a true 45 off the stick on the front nine.

Division 1 first placing went to the consistent Leanne Hunt (handicap 11), scoring two up.

Leanne had a very commendable three up on the front nine, equating to a genuine 37 off the stick.

In her great score Leanne also had three wipe-outs.

Going against the trend for the day Jeannette Braun (handicap 20) had a better back nine pencilling in three up, aided by pars on the 17th and 18th holes.

Her front nine registered two down = one up.

Due to the small field only six balls were handed out to Jennifer Van Ritjhoven, Janina Morrison, Jill Johnson, Helen Gregory, Rab Headlam and Jan Shanahan.

The pro shot on the 8th par three hole, went to a spectacular hole in one shot by Jess Parsons, taking away three balls, plus Eagles Nest from the pro shop.

The amazing fact about this was Jess the night before playing with her daughter in a “practice round” had a hole in one on the same
hole.

Celebrations took place!

Second shot on the 17th par five hole in A Grade went to Jennifer Van Ritjhover, B Grade Lizzie Clements and C Grade Sue Ryan.

Last Saturday 18 ladies teed off in a stableford competition in perfect weather at the Mount Gambier Golf Club.

Playing to her handicap, Vicki Clark (handicap 22) took the first placing, carding 36 points.

Vicki had five pars and her split for the two nines was 15 points/21 points = 36 points.

Second placing went to the very consistent Leanne Hunt (handicap 11) with 34 points.

Leanne had nine pars on her card and a split of 16 points/18 points = 34 points.

Ladies to win a ball in the ball run-down were Jeannette Braun, Trudy Johnson, Camilla Knowles, Jan Shanahan, Yvonne Shirley and Penne Saffin.

Pro shot went to Helen Heaver and the nearest the pin on the 16th par three hole was taken out by Jess Parsons.
