Ladies tee off for Stableford round

The Mount Gambier Golf Club Ladies last week played the second round of the Hudson Plumbing and Roofing Stableford event.

On a very bitterly cold day 30 dedicated ladies took to the course with Helen Gregory (handicap 16) had an amazing 40 points and easily took out first place in Division 1.

Helen carded a great 40 off the stick on the front nine and 45 off the stick on the long back nine = 85 including one birdie, seven pars and importantly no wipe-outs.

Second place went to Jennifer Van Ritjhoven (handicap 15) playing one under her handicap with 37 points.

Jennifer’s split for the two nines was 44/43=87 off the stick and included five three pointers.

First place in Division 2 went to long standing member Linley Gray (handicap 43), who has been rewarded with her persistence to return to the golfing scene.

Linley had 18/17=35 points including four three pointers.

Libby Furner (handicap 36) took out second placing in Division 2 with 32 points, consisting of 17/15=32 points on the front and back nines.

Earning a ball each in the ball run down were Faye Mainwaring, Bernie Jennings, Jess Parsons, Libby Altschwager, Bev Pedlar, Lorraine Stratford and Kate McCormick.

The pro shot on the eighth par 3 hole was won by Helen Gregory.

Second shot on the par 3, sixth hole was won by Val Grubb – A Grade, Gail Stephenson – B Grade and Jane Lamont – C Grade on the 8th hole.

This week we will be playing in the long-running Veterans Day, with the Veterans 55yr/69yr, and Super Veterans 70+ years age groups.

Prizes for the best gross and runner up winners for each age group and the Veterans Champion comes from the best nett score and once again the day will be generously sponsored by DJ Interiors.

Sixteen ladies took part in a stableford round last Saturday in wintry conditions.

First place went to Di O’Donnell (handicap 23) with 37 points to win on a countback.

Di’s card registered 18 points front nine and 19 points back nine, with a birdie on the par 3, eighth hole.

Losing on a countback and relegated to second position was Gemma Winterborn (handicap 25), who had a very good front nine with 20 points and on the back nine 17 points.

Gemma had six three pointers on her card.

Third place went to Bev Pedlar (handicap 21) who had a consistent game and scored 17 points/17 points = 34 points.
