Luminous laneways
a highlight of festival

Luminous laneways burst into life in Mount Gambier over the weekend, as Fringe brought all the fun of the festival to town.

There was plenty of colour and movement in two normally placid pockets of the CBD, as magic and mystery overflowed after dark.

No Name Lane and Engelbrecht Lane overflowed with visitors keen to witness the flair and flamboyance of Fringe, the first time the Blue Lake city had hosted a Fringe laneway event, transporting attendees from Commercial Street through to a mysterious congregation.

There were drag queens and kings, musicians, fire twirlers and acrobats to entertain, coupled with street food and local wines.

While the Fringe flowed through the streets on Friday and Saturday nights, there were numerous other events throughout the Limestone Coast.

Tourists and locals alike flocked to the region for dog shows and dog obedience, the Beachport market, Penola races, surfing at Robe and for the motoring enthusiasts there was racing at Borderline Speedway and Mac Park.

The usually busy Easter break coincided with the start of the Victorian school holidays, with many people also stopping in the Limestone Coast on their way to Adelaide for the AFL Gather Round.

Tourism, hospitality and retail operators were kept busy over the weekend with the influx of visitors.
