Regular sprintcar front–runner and 2022 Borderline Speedway Kings Challenge winner James McFadden will suit up as the star driver in an all–new sprintcar outfit for the upcoming speedway season.
Three–time Supercars Championship and current IndyCar driver Scott McLaughlin has joined forces with Richmond Tiger Jack Riewoldt, sports broadcaster Gerard Whateley and Warrnambool-born sports producer Tim Hodges to launch the new team to field Australian World of Outlaws star McFadden in January’s Grand Annual Sprint Car Classic held at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway.
McFadden is a two-time Classic winner and also is also a fan favourite amongst the local Borderline Speedway crowd, always among the front runners and putting on a spectacle.
NAPA Auto Parts will back two runners for the 2023 Classic, with McFadden leading the local hopes against Brad Sweet, a four-time and current World of Outlaws champion.
Speaking to the Warrnambool Standard, McFadden said the new partnership would also be beneficial to the sport.
“These big names are bringing a new set of eyes to the sport on its biggest stage – so that’s exciting for the team and for the event and town to have them involved,” McFadden said.
While it is unclear whether McLaughlin will be trackside to support the team’s entry, Tigers’ star Riewoldt is eager to be amongst the action in January as McFadden seeks his third Grand Annual Sprint Car Classic victory.
