The ever-popular Millicent Showgrounds Market has been pushed back by a day from its next scheduled date of April 6.

It is the rostered turn of the Millicent Show Society to host the Annual General Meeting of the South East and Border Show Societies Association on that date.

As there are 10 shows in the association, it will be a once-in-decade occasion for Millicent.

During the day, delegates will transact the usual business of an AGM and there will also be the judging of the CWA/Laucke Flour scone competition.

The presentation dinner will be held in the McLaughlin Park clubrooms of the Millicent United Soccer Club and include the announcing the 2024 Rural and Young Rural Ambassadors.

They will represent the region at the annual Royal Adelaide Show in September.

It will then be business-as-usual at Millicent Showgrounds on Sunday, April 7 with around 20 stallholders expected to be in attendance.

Millicent Show Society secretary Sue Vanderheul said the market trading hours had been changed slightly to 10am-2pm.

“We hope that shoppers will have their lunch here, “Ms Vanderheul said.

‘‘There is a private stall outside which cooks a barbecue while the show committee serves coffee, cake, scones et cetera inside in Vera’s Dining Hall with its tables and chairs.

“The Millicent Showgrounds Markets will continue on a fortnightly basis until the three months of winter when they will be held monthly.”

Among the regular stallholders is Karen Olsson who is an ex-member of the general committee of the Millicent Show Society as well as a past convenor of the horses-in-action.

“I enjoy having a stall here as I get to meet new customers and have a chat with my fellow regular stallholders,” Ms Olsson said.

“Everything I sell is brand new and was surplus stock from the time we had a saddlery shop in Millicent.

“I also make and sell made-to-measure leather belts.”
