Millicent Show bikes grounded

Competitive motorbike races at the annual Millicent Show have been cancelled for the second consecutive year.

Factors relating to insurance prompted the cancellation of the races in 2022 and are understood to again be the reason for this year’s abandonment of the two-day meet.

The races have been staged by the Mount Gambier Junior Motorcycle Club in association with the Millicent Show Society for over 30 years,

News of the 2023 cancellation became known on Sunday night when the motorcycle club made a public statement via social media.

“It is with regret that we must announce the cancellation of this year’s Millicent Stadium Cross Event which was planned for November 3 and 4,” stated the club.

“After thorough evaluation and due to unforeseen event expenses, we find ourselves unable to proceed with the event as planned.

“We understand that this news may be disheartening, particularly for those who were eagerly anticipating participation or attendance.

“We deeply share your disappointment and extend our heartfelt apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.”

The races under lights on the Friday night had been a drawcard for the Millicent Show for decades and drew participants and spectators from as far away as Warrnambool.
