Millicent store ceases trading

The Bargain Mart located in the building which once housed the Millicent and District Community Club has ceased trading.

It closed its doors for the final time on Saturday as the owners are retiring.

A notice on its front door states the Millicent Bargain Mart may occasionally open to sell the remaining stock and shop fittings.

Declining patronage and high debt levels prompted the closure of the Millicent Community Club in 2018 after 54 years of continuous trading on the purpose-built Davenport Street site.

An Adelaide insolvency specialist was appointed as the administrator of the Millicent Community Club and he liquated the assets.

The building was purchased by a Geelong retailer in 2020 and he converted it to a shopping emporium called the Millicent Bargain Mart.

The business and premises have been on the open market for almost two years.
