Mothers step out for charity

The showers stayed away on Sunday morning when the Millicent Cancer Support Group celebrated Mothers’ Day with its annual popular walk around the Millicent parklands.

Dozens took the opportunity to back the long-established group which raises funds for such causes as patient comforts at Millicent Hospital, medical research and fitting out rooms at the Cancer Council lodge in suburban Adelaide.

Each adult participant in the walk was asked for a $10 donation and the coffers were also boosted by the sale of raffle tickets, earrings and bunches of native flowers.

There were plenty of dashes of pink to be seen.

For almost 15 years, the group has successfully staged such events each Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day.

Millicent Cancer Support Group president Lisa McCourt said she was pleased to announce the Girls Day In will be staged at the Somerset Hotel on October 29.

“We have not been able to have it in recent years on account of COVID,” Ms McCourt said.

“It will have a Derby Day theme as this is the time of the Spring racing carnival in Melbourne.”
