Mount Burr group on path to create new walking trails

Projects supported by the 2021/22 Grassroots Grants are well under way across the Limestone Coast region.

The Limestone Coast Landscape Board provided funding to 11 recipients across the region at the start of the 2021/22 financial year, which have been used to kick-start a number of new and exciting projects.

Some funding has also provided a continuation of larger projects from the 2020/21 round to further benefit a sustainably managed landscape.

Mount Burr Trails Incorporated is one of the successful 2021/2022 project grant recipients.

Its Lookout Loop project will centre on the creation of nature-based trails for people to enjoy in the Mount Burr area.

Mount Burr Trails Incorporated spokesperson Rob Gordon said the purpose of the project was to create well maintained trails where community members could take their families for generations to come and connect or reconnect with nature in beautiful surroundings.

“All members of the group are very excited to have received the Grassroots Grant from the Limestone Coast Landscape Board,” Mr Gordon said.

“The funding will allow us to focus on the establishment of the Lookout Loop walking trail (near Mount Burr).”

With the construction and continued maintenance of trails, the inclusion of interpretive signs and the rehabilitation of native bushland along with pest plant removal as key priorities for the group, there will be plenty of opportunities for the local community to become involved.

Limestone Coast Grassroots Grants are an annual funding opportunity for groups and organisations looking to create projects with environmental and community benefits in the Limestone Coast.

Applications will open in March 2022 for the 2022/23 round of funding.
