Mount Gambier DJ turns up bass

Mount Gambier DJ Jordan Morrow, also known as DJ Jord, has been nominated for two Bass Hive UK awards.

Bass Hive recognises up-and-coming DJ’s and Mr Morrow plays a genre called bass-house, which includes heavy bass music such as dance music.

“They are pretty big in that genre of music,” Mr Morrow said.

“It was pretty cool, because it is a good way to get your name out there.”

Mr Morrow was nominated for the Best Newcomer award, which is for DJs in their first year of releasing music and the Underrated Release award, which is for a song that did not gain as much traction as it probably should have.

Mr Morrow taught himself to DJ in 2019 after buying some DJ decks and said he enjoyed entertaining.

“I have always liked dance music and that sort of music, so I thought why not give it a go and I just kind of stuck with it,” he said.

“It is kind of more of a hobby at the moment, but if something comes out of it, something comes out of it.

“But it is something I really enjoy doing and it would be good to maybe get to a point where you can make a living off of it, that would be pretty cool.”

Mr Morrow DJs at lots of local venues and will play at The Globe on Christmas Eve, the Beachport Boxing Day Bash and Mac’s Hotel on New Year’s Eve.
