Online photographic event provides virtual Bay Escape

Port MacDonnell’s Bay Escape festival is launching an online photo competition in lieu of its 2022 physical event.

Last month the Bay Escape committee made the difficult decision to cancel its 2022 event.

Event coordinator Ryan Donovan said as it was the second year the event had been cancelled, the committee wanted to find a way to engage with the community and supporters of the event.

“This is where the idea of an online event/competition came from,” he said.

“We have been very disappointed that we have not been able to proceed with the festival for a second year running but did not want the cancellation to be a lost opportunity.

“We are proud of our region and would love to use the month of March to fill our feeds with great imagery of Port MacDonnell and surrounds.”

Mr Donovan said the photo competition would be run on Facebook with the Bay Escape team asking people to submit their entries by liking the Facebook page @bayescapeportmacdonnell, sharing the competition post with their friends and posting their photo entry by tagging @bayescapeportmacdonnell and nominating the relevant category.

“We would like to thank those local businesses that have continued to support us during this time, particularly with the generous donation of prizes from Perwinkles Café, Raidis Estate, Spot On Fishing and Outdoors and The Bay Pizzaria & Café,” Mr Donovan said.

The photographic categories for the event are The Greatest Catch – showcasing your greatest fishing catch to win a prize pack donated by Spot On Fishing  and Outdoors Mount Gambier.

Stunning Sunsets will highlight the most stunning sunset viewed from the Port MacDonnell (or surrounds) foreshore to win a $50 voucher for Periwinkles Café and a wine pack with four bottles of wine from  Raidis Estate and Zema Estate Wines.

Family Moments will capture seaside fun by sharing a photo with your favourite  place to visit with your family in Port MacDonnell (or surrounds) to win a pass to Treehouse  Adventure Centre.

The Best Regional Showcase will highlight the essence of our region with the winner awarded a $50 voucher for The Bay  Pizzaria and Café and a pack with four bottles of wine from Raidis Estate and Zema Estate Wines.

Entries close on March 31 with winners announced on Facebook on April 7.
