Pacers chase golden glory

The Matthews Petroleum Mount Gambier Pacing Gold Cup will hit the Mount Gambier Harness Racing Club track this Saturday.


The prestigious racing event has been a fixture of the South East harness racing community for over 50 years and last year’s winner and Glencoe trainer Kevin Von Duve claiming glory with Springfield Affair.


Gates open at 4pm with racing to launch from 6.30pm-7pm including a Heat of the SA Pacing Cup, Canny Ever Trotters Cup and 3YO Blue Lake Classic.


The main race is sure to provide some outstanding performances and exciting racing, with the best horses and drivers having booked themselves a spot for the Gold Cup outing.


With so much talent on display, the final race is sure to be an exciting and intense event which will be a compelling watch for the crowd.


Mount Gambier Harness Racing Club president Simon Phillips said nominations were looking strong with approximately 75 competitors in a mix of local, Victorian and Adelaide competitors.


“It is all looking good. There are plenty of horses that have nominated,” he said.


“Not only is it our gold cup, but there will be support racing with fast class horses for a Heat of the SA Pacing Cup which will be a really good race.”


There will be great entertainment for the whole family with the pony trots gold cup, bookmaker, punters club, live music and free face painting.


There will be a selection of refreshments on offer including a full bar and tote, canteen facilities and food trucks.


Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for concession holders.


The Mount Gambier Harness Club Calcutta will kick off the Matthews Petroleum Mount Gambier Pacing Gold Cup excitement on Friday from 5.30pm onwards at the Mount Gambier RSL Function Room.
