Pay fight goes to court

Apay dispute involving workers at a number of South East supermarkets is set to go to trial in the Federal Court.

The SE Voice understands that mediation between the parties has failed as retailer Eudunda Farmers Limited does not accept the claims made by the Shop Distributive and Allied Employees Union (SDA).

This newspaper has been told that both parties have engaged senior legal counsel.

The SDA lodged a claim in the Federal Court in 2021 against Eudunda Farmers Limited which is an Adelaide-based operator of 20 Foodlands and IGAs with 350 employees in regional South Australia.

The union is alleging that widespread underpayments of hundreds of workers have occurred at the Eudunda Farmers Ltd stores over a number of years but these claims have been rejected by the retailer.

The SDA is pursuing millions of dollars in alleged backpay for impacted workers and is asking the Federal Court to award penalties for these alleged breaches.
